BCA National Champions and European Bid Winners - 2015

Superstars attended BCA Nationals 2015 in Telford this weekend with 11 routines competing across all age divisions (Mini, Youth, Junior, Senior and Open) in Cheerleading, Stunt, HipHop and Pom Dance.

For many attending it was their first time ever competing (or for some their first time with Superstars).

The athletes did the program proud with their performances over the weekend earning 2 National Champion titles and 3 European Summit fully paid bids. We also have to thank our spectators, supporters and chaperones for everything they did to help the teams’ weekend run smoothly.

Storm - Junior 2 Cheer

Our youngest athletes aged 6-14 faced adversity the night before competing with grace, professionalism and maturity. They pulled together and went on to perform their routine with confidence and clarity. No one watching would know what they had to deal with behind the scenes or the changes that were made less than 12hrs beforehand.

The team are currently building on their tumbling skills and this is the biggest area for improvement on their score sheet. We’ll be working hard on this over the next few months.

Supreme – Senior 2 Cheer

This team has many of our newest athletes and they have all pulled together brilliantly over the past few months of training together. Their confidence has grown and blossomed and many are really starting to perform their hearts out. In a massive division of 18 teams they managed to beat 10 other programs which is an enormous achievement.

We know that we have at least 10 more athletes on the cusp of hitting their back handspring and roundoff flick and we can’t wait to add these to the routine for the next competition. We’ll also be upping the stunt and pyramid difficulty so watch out for them in a few months’ time.

Samurai – Senior 3 Cheer

The biggest praise of all has to go to the athletes on this team who stuck ALL their stunts. You ladies were amazing! Samurai achieved a 9.6 out of 10 for their jumps and 9.4 for their basket tosses which is an excellent score!

Over the next few months Samurai will be focusing on core skill perfection, performance under pressure and as ever, building their level-appropriate tumble skills.

Sunshine – Mini 1 Stunt

Another team that had to deal with a less than ideal situation Sunshine made us all proud with both how they performed and how they handled an emotional situation. They won the hearts of the other teams in their division who are now firm friends.

This team will be pushing forward with difficulty and speed of the routine with the goal of earning a National Champion title of their own in the near future.

Style – Youth 2 Stunt

Made up exclusively of new athletes – Style were given a daunting task this season of learning and mastering level 2. They are well on their way with this goal and showed it by earning a NATIONAL CHAMPION TITLE, a FIRST PLACE TROPHY and gold medals.

Style will be building on their routine speed and difficulty next term as well as their partner stunting prowess.

Smash – Junior 3 Stunt

Another team of athletes challenged to learn a brand new level, Smash have stepped up their game. These young ladies went on the floor and performed harder and with more smiles than they ever have before. They were rewarded with a 3rd place trophy in their division and bronze medals.

Smash have shown they can hit the basics – now we’re going to wow you with our creativity and flow. Smash is going to be everything twist when you next see them on the mat.

Sage – Senior 1 Stunt

Out of 5 athletes, Sage has 3 flyers. This shows a lot of skill and strength and they really demonstrated both this weekend. They were rewarded for their hard work and dedication with a NATIONAL CHAMPION TITLE, a FIRST PLACE TROPHY and gold medals. The team also achieved the highest stunt group score of all the Superstars stunt groups at the competition.

Sage’s routine is about to get epic. Flexibility meets strength, power and transitions. All with exceptional performance quality as standard.

Sting – Senior Open 3 Stunt

Full of perfectionists – Sting are a hard group to please. They hold themselves to incredibly high standards and won’t be happy with as much as a bobble in their performances. The team hit most elements beautifully but had some disappointment in others and hence were out of the running for the title. They came away with 2nd place, a trophy and silver medals all round.

Soldiers – Junior HipHop

The first time on the floor together as a team and the first time competing in the hiphop division – we didn’t know how Soldiers would handle the pressure. Wow did they show us! Hitting the routine to a fantastic standard they gave the others in division (many of whom were much older) a fight. To screams of joy they were announced as 3rd place earning a trophy, bronze medals and a FULLY PAID BID TO THE EUROPEAN SUMMIT.

We can’t wait to get back to training with Soldiers to build on their routine difficulty, tricks and execution.

Smackdown – Senior Pom

Following some intensive training over the past fortnight, Smackdown had a score to settle and point to prove. They took the floor with professionalism and poise and rocked it out. A routine full or intricate pom switches and fast changes our dancers made it look near effortless and were rewarded with a 3rd place trophy in their division and bronze medals and a FULLY PAID BID TO THE EUROPEAN SUMMIT.

We are planning to redesign some routine elements to increase overall appeal and effect as well as continuing to build our technical skills.

Showtime – Senior Open HipHop

Always a crowd favourite Showtime took the floor aiming to stop the arena dead and make them take notice...and they succeeded. Our dancers performed with incredible energy telling a wonderfully creepy story of surgeons, operations and death. The team were against exceptional competitors and were honoured with 2nd place, a trophy and silver medals plus their second FULLY PAID BID TO THE EUROPEAN SUMMIT.

They will be making some changes to the routine structure and looking to add a wider variety of hiphop styles and vocabulary to their routine for the summer.

Overall it was a long but rewarding weekend. The Superstars program continues to grow and get stronger and there’s never been a better time to be part of it.
