Summer Showdown Success

Superstars just had an amazing weekend. We had 98 athletes, spectators and coaches attend BCA’s final competition of the season, Summer Showdown 2014, at the Guildford Spectrum and the team had a fantastic time. It helped that the weather was gorgeous so during longer breaks the team enjoyed the sunshine with a slushi and a little bit of light stunting. But the main event was in the arena where we took to the floor with 6 routines (3 of which made their debut for the season). We were exceptionally proud of all our athletes, spectators and coaches for how they carried themselves throughout the day but of course the absolute highlight was receiving the recognition of earning a placing in every division we entered (many of which were massive).

Superstars Style – Senior Group Stunt Level 1 - Debut

All of our Style athletes are brand new to our program (many of whom have been with us fewer than 3 months) and yet they held their own in a difficult division on their first time out with a routine full of ¼ transitions and partner stunts. The team averaged a great score of 83% against a number of very experienced teams and earned a fantastic 4th place trophy in a division of 8. Great work Style!

Superstars Strive – Junior Group Stunt Level 1

Strive had a new addition for this competition and were looking to shake out all previous nerves and really show the audience and the judges what they can do. They hit almost every skill and looked gorgeous and professional while doing so. The team earned a score of 74% and a 2ndplace trophy in a division of 8 teams.

Superstars Stride – Senior Group Stunt Level 2

Stride has dealt with the most upheaval of any of our teams this season. It kept having athlete changes and injuries to the point where the current group only began training 4 weeks prior to this competition for just 2hrs a week and their flyer is usually a base. The team did a fantastic job of hitting and clean and strong routine throughout and thoroughly earning a 2nd place trophy in their division of 9 teams. The girls scored an average of 82%!

Superstars Strike – Senior Group Stunt Level 4

Strike had a less than perfect run with some unfortunately bobbles and a missed skill. However their routine has seen increased difficulty since last performed in May and will have even more added for their final competition in July. The team were thrilled to manage a 2nd place trophy (out of 7 teams) following the bobbles and scored an average of 81%. The team will be aiming to improve perfection, execution and performance scores at their next competition along with an increase in difficulty.

Superstars Stun – Junior Cheer Level 1

Stun comprised athletes aged 5-14yrs for a maxed out level 1 routine filled with partner stunt skills. The team also included many brand new to cheer athletes for whom this was their first competition. Overall the team held their nerve and demonstrated exception poise. Given the difficulty of their routine we are so proud of what every Stun athlete did on the mat and how they have approached their training in general over the last month in the run up to competition.

There were a few bobbles and falls which caused deductions to their score and ultimately affected their final placing. Had the team executed their routine without any of the bobbles or falls they would have scored 89.3% and taken 1st place. Unfortunately the deductions put them in 3rdinstead but this still beat 9 other teams in their division of 12 nd was an amazing result for their first time out.

Working it like champions, here for number 1, red gold black, Superstars STUN.

Superstars Supreme – Senior Cheer Level 2

We are so proud of Supreme for how far they have come this season in terms of their team work, work ethic, skill progression and general performance quality. Many of the team began cheer this year and didn’t initially think themselves capable of the wonderful things they have managed to do. We couldn’t be more proud.

On the day the girls hit the cleanest routine they’ve managed all season with a number of athletes having the confidence to throw tumbles they have been working on for the first time at competition.

The team scored an initial total of 87.5%.

Unfortunately the team received a couple of deductions for bobbles in stunt and tumble which meant that their placing was taken from 1st to 3rd. But in a division of 11 we are still incredibly proud of what they achieved and importantly we believe this is the start of a whole new level of self-belief and confidence for many of our Supreme athletes that we hope will continue on during tryout prep training this season and into next year.

WE ARE...SUPERSTARS!
