Superstars Competitions

If you're new to competing with Superstars, here is some information that is the same at all the events we attend.

- At competitions - the main responsibility of your coaches is the competitive performance of our athletes. Therefore any issues including but not limited to; hair, makeup, tickets, timings, questions, etc should be brought to experienced parents/athletes rather than the coaching staff. They should have very limited contact with parents throughout the day as they will be focused on athletes and routines. Please be respectful of this. We want to have time to hang out and chat with you - if we're able to we absolutely will - but it will depend on how busy the schedule is. Coaches may need breaks separate from athletes/spectators etc in order to ensure they can give you their best. Please don't be offended if this is the case.

- A positive, calm and encouraging environment is the most beneficial at events. Parents - please help provide this for your children. Support them in their successes and through any challenges they might face. Allow our coaches to coach them on skills/performance etc. Do not compare them to other athletes/teams either within or outside our program. You have no way of knowing how many years, hours per week others have trained or equally how many injuries suffered etc. As a program we fully encourage you to praise someone if you saw them do something that moved you - whether within our program or on another team. Most comps we attend have a great atmosphere. Its such a great feeling to have a stranger praise you - we love when it happens to us - so why not do it for someone else.

- Please be aware that on the day things can change. Timings can change, issues can arise etc. Keep an eye on our facebook members group for live updates of any such changes and always allow lots of time to be where you are needed when. Even small venues can take a long time to navigate when full. Expect things to never go 100% to plan and know this is totally normal.

- Call times should be STRICTLY observed. Being late for call times could mean you miss your opportunity to collect tickets/passes, miss a warmup or miss a performance. Do not make others stressed by being late. There is NO EXCUSE.

- Your competition letter with full details will be provided as soon as all the required information is known from the competition provider. This will include details on the venue, parking, travel, accommodation, meals, spectators, call times, schedule etc as relevant to that event. We aren't keeping things from you - event producers often don't send us final details until the WEEK OF the event.

- It's important to understand how comp works. Whatever your age or level of competition experience, if you for whatever reason have any problems, upsets, issues or concerns during the weekend you must talk to your team mates, chaperones, coaches or head coach (in that order as needed). It is likely that whatever you might be feeling – others have gone through the same thing. It is also essential that no-one carry around negativity which may affect your or others’ experience. If you are concerned about a member of your team please also alert a chaperone, team coach or head coach. Everyone should have a hugely positive experience at competition – that’s why we do this. If you hear someone within our program being negative - please ask them to keep it to themselves - if they continue please let a coach know.

- Everyone attending is representing the Superstars program therefore everyone is subject to our rules and codes of conduct. If ANY athlete or supporter demonstrate behaviour unbecoming of a Superstar or which could or does bring the program into disrepute it is grounds for instant dismissal from the program. Such behaviours would include but are not limited to: swearing, disparaging others (either within or outside our program), speaking to event staff without express permission from the head coach, abuse of our alcohol or drugs policies, etc.

- If you need to contact the head coach please do so by FACEBOOK GROUP WALL POSTS ONLY.

- Athlete/spectator passes etc are your responsibility once given. Do not lose them. You will likely not be able to attend the competition if you do (or pay a heavy fine to the event producer).

- When travelling to the event please dress and present yourself smartly. You should NOT wear your cheer trainers when travelling. Depending on your performance time you should decide the most appropriate time to dress in full uniform, hair and makeup. Team kit and the event/days' designated t-shirt should be worn when not in uniform. If you do not own team training kit you should wear plain black.

- All jewellery should be left at home. It HAS to come out for competition. All of it. It is often lost if taken to competition.

- Do not take anything valuable you don’t need. It may be lost or stolen – unfortunately this happens a lot at large events.

- As ever – no one may smoke or consume alcohol while wearing Superstars kit even if you are legal to do so. If you are a smoker - you must ensure that you only do this in designated areas and out of any team kit. No one (even those of legal age to do so) may consume alcohol at any time 24hrs before competition up until they are home again following the competition. No illegal substances should be consumed at any time when attending Superstars training, events or competitions (or at ANY TIME, EVER).

- Please bring a small day bag (ideally your team back pack) for the arena. Large bags are often not allowed in.

- When moving around the competition venue – all under 18’s must travel in pairs.

- If planning to move around the venue e.g. to find food, please allow ample time and ensure you are where you need to be, when you need to be there.

- At some events we require all athletes to remain within the comp venue. At others we allow you outside with a parent/chaperone. Please see the details for each event on the comp letter.

- No member of the program may speak to officials/competition staff unless expressly requested to by the coaching staff. If you have a query or concern on the day please first speak to a chaperone or team coach who will then escalate an issue to head coach if needed.

- IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT COMP (not answered in the comp letter) PLEASE ASK BEFOREHAND OR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

- CHEER/STUNT Comp uniform requires: team uniform top, team uniform skort, white cheer trainers, white trainer socks, black or nude coloured underwear (and sports bra if needed).

- DANCE uniform is determined for each routine and should be known in advance.

- CHEER/STUNT comp hair is a high donut bun - bow facing forwards. No whispies. Gel and comb that head if needed. Whispies look awful on the floor. If you are new to competition hair please see pictures of our teams at competition and ask for help if needed. Practice comp hair with your comp bow in advance. Do not leave it until the day of the event.

- Superstars Cheer or Stunt comp makeup is foundation, black eyeliner and mascara. Gold, red and black on the eyes and a bold red lip. Coaches may check your look and request changes to bring you more in line with the team. If you need help ask - we usually have athletes/parents who are talented in hair/makeup and happy to help.

- Dance makeup will be determine for each routine.
